14-Line Streetcar #1583 lost control of brakes at San Jose and Shakespeare and crashed at San Jose and Ocean. [Runaway streetcar comes to stop at bottom of San Francisco Hill only after smashing through steel street post, snapping off wooden telephone pole, knifing front porch from a home and smashing two automobiles. Fast-thinking motorman, John H. Paterson, San Francisco, as he discovered the broken brake mechanism, shouted to a passing motorist to race ahead and clear the street, and to the car's only other occupant, a conductorette, to lie down on the floor. She was uninjured, he, only slightly.

View east from center of Market toward streetcar accident between 2 Market Street Railway (MSRy) cars 7-line #119 and 21-line #1502. The outbound 7-line streetcar split a switch while turning onto McAllister. 4 pedestrians were injured. Paramount Theatre. David Hewes Building, Weinsteins Department store, Sterling Furniture.

View northeast across Market between Powell and Stockton. 6-line streetcar #136 derailed in front of the Flood Building blocking all streetcar traffic. At this point, post merger of merger of Muni and Market Street Railway, both the tracks and equipment were worn leading to this derailment. The 4 tracks were reduced to 2 the next year.
