View northeast across intersection to the oldest still extant stable building in the Tenderloin, built as the Santa Clara Stables by architects O'Brien Brothers in 1909, later the Civic Center Garage. It was the offices of the Golden Gate Theatre & Realty Corp., owned by Samuel H. Levin and his son Irving 'Bud' Levin, the latter being the founder and director of the San Francisco International Film Festival, 1957-1964. The building was the festival's headquarters during those years. The company shared the offices, as well as company ownership with United California Theatres, Inc., which grew into United Artists Communications. (PF)
