Our Navy, May 5th 1908. Photo montage of parts of the Great White Fleet. Not all the ships shown were part of the tour. In the center is Admiral Robley D. 'Fightng Bob' Evans, commander of the fleet. (Evans was relieved of command due to ill health when the fleet reached San Francisco.) SF Bay
Taken from about Lyon and Broadway looking Northeast. The intersection of Broderick and Union is at center (2760-62 Broderick, southeast corner, still stands in 2019). Smokestack of United Railroads powerhouse visible at the right margin is in its original state. The top part broke off in the quake and was rebuilt with darker material, probably brick, giving it a two-tone look. URR completed the powerhouse in late 1902 or early 1903. House under construction at lower left.
