The construction site in the foreground was for Friedlander's Building, at northeast corner of California and Sansome, built 1869-1870. Two of the small buildings on California Street (#409 and #411-413) are shown here in their original appearance; they were enlarged and remodeled in early 1870. Fireman's Fund was built in 1866-1867.
