At left Casebolt Mansion at 2727 Pierce between Vallejo & Green still stands (SF Landmark 51). Green Street not yet cut through, intersection at far right is Pierce & Union. Corner mansion with gardens front and back was built circa 1884 by wealthy attorney and landowner David Bixler. Four story windmill and water tank across Union. Chapel at left was built in 1887 with funds provided by Stephen S. Smith, deacon of Plymouth Congregational Church, publisher of the Pacific. In 1895, became the Pierce Street Congregational Church.
