Point Bonita Lighthouse and Mt. Tamalpais in distance. (Presence of both short metal smokestack and taller brick smokestack indicate the photo was taken about the time of the Baths' formal dedication in March 1896.)

2nd Cliff House

The chateau-inspired Cliff House was built in 1896 by Adolph Sutro. It survived the 1906 earthquake only to burn on September 7, 1906. View looking north on Cliff Avenue (today's Point Lobos Ave.). Large doors at lower center led to a carriageway under the structure.
