View south across street to 133-137 Post Street, between Kearny and Grant. McCarty's Dancing Academy inside. Dedicated in March, 1862 by the Dashaway Association, a pro-temperance social society founded in 1859 by a group of San Francisco firemen. California State Normal School was located there for about 6 weeks in 1865. The hall was sold and renamed Irving Hall in 1884. In 1890, H. Liebes & Co. (furs) added a story. In 1894, Liebes turned it into a 5 story building and substantially rebuilt it, including demolishing and rebuilding the facade. (AS)
