The wreck of the 'Aquila' in San Francisco [engraving] The Aquila sank on the night of Nov. 15, 1863 while moored at Hathaway's Wharf during a bad storm. USS Camanche was a Passaic-class monitor built on the east coast and shipped in pieces to SF Bay where it was reassembled and launched November 14, 1864 at China Basin.
