Golden Gate Park

1906 Earthquake and Fire, Refugee camp after the 1906 earthquake and fire. Camp #5, in the Recreation grounds (Big Rec). The original idea was to construct long barracks to house families, with open ceilings above 8 ft. walls. Squabbles led to fights between residents. The idea was abandoned and families moved into the conical Sibley tents on the camp margin. The wooden buildings were used for storage of supplies. St. Ignatius High School

222 Stanyan Street. St. Ignatius High School, view north on Stanyan towards Turk. The Jesuit high school occupied this structure from 1929 to 1969. It later became part of the University of San Francisco. The building was demolished in Spring 1987 to make way for USF's Koret Health & Recreation Center.
