Golden Gate Park

Bicycle race in progress on inner track of Golden Gate Park Stadium. Golden Gate Park Stadium was proposed in 1904, delayed construction because of the 1906 earthquake and fire. Opened on July 4, 1906. It was envisioned as a multi-use stadium, but popularly called the Polo Field because that sport was played intermittently from the 1920s to 1960s.
