Posters on fence on Powell for the last week of David Warfield's engagement at the Alcazar Theatre and the Emporium's grand reopening on Market Street. Warfield's run concluded on October 10th and the Emporium, then California's largest store, reopened on October 1, 1908. (AS)

View north to Pioneer (James Lick) Monument at Marshall Square. Hall of Records in background. Current intersection of Grove and Hyde. Henry Johnson & Son Delicacies, 12 Marshall Square. City Hall demolished, Grove street would be extended to Market at this location in 1914. In 1993, the monument was moved to the pedestrian mall on Fulton Street between the Asian Art Museum and the new Main Library. French-made cannon to right of the monument was a Spanish-American war prize. It is now in the Presidio.
