Pacific Heights
View northwest from Pacific Heights over Cow Hollow. Green Street not yet cut through, intersection at center is Pierce and Union. Large southwest corner mansion with tower and gardens front and back was built circa 1884 by wealthy attorney and landowner David Bixler. Four story windmill and water tank on Union west of Pierce. Chapel at left center was built in 1887 with funds provided by Stephen S. Smith, deacon of the Plymouth Congregational Church and publisher of the Pacific. In 1895, it became the Pierce Street Congregational Church. House at center with Mansard roof was home of Louis Schultz at 2426 Filbert. Presidio, Fort Point, northern shoreline with tidal slough, Marin Headlands in distance.
