In 1993, the monument was moved to the pedestrian mall on Fulton Street between the Asian Art Museum and the new Main Library. French-made cannon in front of monument was a Spanish-American war prize, presented by the Army in a ceremony on March 21, 1900. It is now in the Presidio.
