At left Casebolt Mansion at 2727 Pierce between Vallejo & Green still stands (SF Landmark 51). Green Street not yet cut through, intersection at far right is Pierce & Union. Corner mansion with gardens front and back was built circa 1884 by wealthy attorney and landowner David Bixler. Four story windmill and water tank across Union. Chapel at left was built in 1887 with funds provided by Stephen S. Smith, deacon of Plymouth Congregational Church, publisher of the Pacific. In 1895, became the Pierce Street Congregational Church. Presidio, Fort Point, shoreline with tidal slough, sailing vessel, Marin Headlands in distance [Golden Gate, The Bay of San Francisco]

Large southwest corner mansion with tower and gardens front and back was built circa 1884 by wealthy attorney and landowner David Bixler. Four story windmill and water tank on Union west of Pierce. In 1895, it became the Pierce Street Congregational Church. House at center with Mansard roof was home of Louis Schultz at 2426 Filbert.
