Golden Gate Park, view northwest across Bowling Green Drive near Middle Drive (now Nancy Pelosi) toward the entrance to the Deer Glen (now the AIDS Memorial Grove). From at least the 1910's to the 1990's this was known as the De Laveaga Dell, named after settler and philanthropist Jose Vicente de Laveaga. who gave a monetary bequest for its development in the 1890's. Note original Sphinx, Dore Vase, and Cupid statues, which stood in front of the Spreckels bandshell from some time in 1900 until approximately 1910. See wnp27.5475.
