Ceremonial ground breaking for the PPIE (Panama-Pacific International Exposition) by President Taft at the stadium (Polo Fields) in Golden Gate Park. Among those standing in front of podium is American opera star Mme. Lillian Nordica (1857-1914), who sang at the ceremony. At this point San Francisco had been chosen for the fair, but a location for the fair had yet to be decided.
