This house was built in 1881 at 2435 Fillmore Street on the Southwest corner of Jackson, for Captain J. O. Van Bergen to designs by Samuel and J. Cather Newsom. It was moved, most likely in 1908, to an uncertain location. A photo of the move in progress is in the article 'Itinerant Houses', in The Argonaut, Spring 1999. (WMK)

View north to a home 2606 Pacific between Scott and Pierce, built 1888. (The house was moved to 2518 Union Street in 1895 and still stands in 2021. Interior remodel in 1935 by Julia Morgan.) The Pixley Estate in the background right, a tree covered block bounded by Union, Fillmore, Green, and Steiner. Fort Mason (Black Point) and Alcatraz in the background. Wood plank sidewalk, delivery wagon in front. Also ff note here is a view of the western toll gate of the Bay Shore & Fort Point toll road. You can see the road as it curves toward the gate. View northwest from Pacific Heights about Broadway and Fillmore, over Cow Hollow toward the Golden Gate. Pierce St. runs across the view. Small church on Green St. built in 1887 with funds provided by Stephen S. Smith, deacon of Plymouth Congregational Church and publisher of the Pacific. In 1895, it became Pierce Street Congregational Church. Intersection at center right is Pierce and Union. Large southwest corner mansion with gardens front and back was built circa 1884 by wealthy attorney and landowner David Bixler. Four story windmill and water tank across Union. Home of Louis Schultz (1842-1909, brewer and capitalist) with Mansard roof to right of water tower, at 2426 (later 2466) Filbert, built no later than 1875, demolished 1948. Presidio, Fort Point, shoreline, Harbor View.
