This home at 35 27th Avenue was built by architects William Wurster, Theodor Bernardi and Don Emmons in 1950. In the 1960s, these men were hired to renovate historic buildings near Fisherman's Wharf, including the Ghirardelli chocolate factory and a knitting mill, from industrial to retail space.

[Recreation & Parks] View to Golden Gate Bridge from China Beach. At the time, the little beach was called Phelan Beach. The large retaining wall was constructed in 1951. In 1954, a bathhouse with lifeguard station, sunbathing decks, and food concession was added.
