Geary near 46th Ave
February 1, 1938
View northwest to Market Street Railway (MSRy) 2-line streetcar #231 with Byllesby Shield logo, in use from late 1925 to 1938. The streetcar has a sign on its front saying that it went directly to the whale off Point Lobos. This refers to a sperm whale which washed up there, amid the pieces of the wrecked SS Ohioan, on February 11, 1938. It was towed away to a tallow plant on Islais Creek on February 16, 1938. In background right, 8122 and 8130 Geary, built in 1922, still stand in 2023 largely unchanged.
changed from 1940's due to lack of zip stripe, as seen on car elsewhere, and dash sign with ad to see the whale on point lobos.
