O'Farrell & Stockton
The Howard Block four-story building on northwest corner with residences on left and right side. Temple Emanu-El in right distance. Before construction in 1872 or 1873, the site was an empty lot, used sometimes for tent revivals and traveling circuses. The building always had multiple tenants, such as the headquarters of the Pacific Division of the U.S. Army and The Howard lodgings in 1873, the Commissioner of Indian Affairs in 1877, the California Supreme Court in 1881, and the Concordian Club.
