View north on Pierce St., from near Broadway. Henry Casebolt Mansion, 2727 Pierce between Green and Vallejo built 1865 (extant) at far left (San Francisco Landmark No. 51). Small church beyond Casebolt House was built in 1887 with funds provided by Stephen S. Smith, deacon of the Plymouth Congregational Church and publisher of the Pacific. In 1895, it became the Pierce Street Congregational Church. Large mansion with tower on southwest corner of Pierce and Union was built circa 1884 by wealthy attorney and landowner David Bixler. Four story windmill and water tank across Union. At right, The Church of St. Mary the Virgin (Episcopal) at corner of Union and Steiner, with trees of Frank Pixley estate opposite.
