View from Huntington Hotel

View northwest from Huntington Hotel at California and Taylor toward Russian Hill, Angel Island, Alcatraz and North Beach. Grace Cathedral at left, Huntington Park at center. Clay-Jones Apartments (1930, architect Albert Larsen) with radio tower on roof in distance left. On northeast corner of Sacramento and Taylor at center, 11-story building 1190 Sacramento St. completed in 1958, under construction. At lower right, Sproule Mansion (1907-1967, northeast corner of Sacramento and Sproule Lane), built for George Whittell and sold in 1917 to William Sproule (1858-1935), president of Wells Fargo Express and the Southern Pacific Railroad). It was then extensively remodeled by Bliss & Saville architects. It was demolished in November, 1967 after an unsuccessful fight for its preservation

changed from 56 to 58 based on construction.
