17th & York
April 22, 1906
View south across 17th Street from Franklin Square. Crowd kneeling in gated yard and during outdoor Catholic church service at 2611 17th Street (then the southeast corner of 17th and York, later site of 17th St. car barn). Service was held on the Sunday following the earthquake and fire, led by Rev. Father Patrick Mulligan. Bernal Heights in the distance, building in distance at right may be Union Brewery at 18th and Florida Sts. The 1905 directory lists this as the home of attorney and former Sheriff John J. McDade and capitalist Richard O'Neill. [Holding Service in the Open Air, 17th & Bryant Sts.]
