Van Ness & Francisco
January 1, 1900
Looking north towards Fort Mason and ships' masts. Angel Island in far distance. These houses were condemned in 1912 to make way for the Panma-Pacific International Exposition (PPIE). The one at left, 3009 Van Ness, was built in 1897 as the residence of contractor Frank V. Steinmann. In 1912 it was purchased by John Picone and moved to 1232-1234 Chestnut, where it still stands.
