Post & Steiner
National Theatre on the northwest corner of Post & Steiner. Erected in a tent, it opened on May 28, 1906 and billed itself as the first theatre after the fire. It closed by 1917 and was replaced on the site by the New Dreamland (later renamed Winterland) in 1928. The the right of the National is the Dreamland Rink, already in operation by September 22, 1906. Beyond is the stagehouse of the New Alcazar Theatre (later the Republic, then the Sutter, finally the Uptown) which opened in 1907 at Sutter and Steiner.
