View south across Mission to 545 Mission, constructed in 1906-7, the first major commercial loft building constructed in the South of Market after the 1906 Earthquake. Designed by architect Henry A. Schultze for the Greenwood Estate, to house their Pacific Coast Paper Company. Photo taken after facade was modernized in 1950 by Hertzka & Knowles architects. Tenants in 1951: Ken Edwards, Weil-Kalter Co., Leisenring Printing Co., Andre Paper Box Co., and Arnell of California. Ets-Hokin & Galvan (electrical contractors) in 551 Mission at right. All buildings in view except 545 Mission have been demolished and Shaw Alley at left has been converted to pedestrian use.(AS)
