Pacific Near Montgomery

Crescent Engine Co. No. 10, founded on November 4, 1852 on Ohio Street (now Osgood Pl.) between Broadway and Pacific. Hand operated pumper truck (fire engine) surrounded by members of the fire company. Other men sit on second story ledge. The Company moved to the north side of Pacific, between Montgomery and Kearny (where this photo was taken) by 1856, and to 1804 Stockton in 1865, but became extinct in 1866 at the advent of the paid fire department.
