View northeast across intersection to crowd posing in front of Bay State Market grocery in three story building. Metropolitan Hotel sign, Temple Shaari Zedek, barber shop. Harness & Carriage shop on right. The synagogue was built in 1854 as Temple Sherith Israel, but that congregation moved in 1870. A dissident group elected to stay at the synagogue, forming an Orthodox congregation with the new name.
