1906 Earthquake and Fire, Elevated view northeast to dedication of California Volunteers memorial. A sailor and a soldier hold the flag over the statue. Statue later moved to Market & Dolores. In the distance on the right, the Majestic Theater ruins (on Market near 9th,) the Grant Building, the Flood and Call Buildings. From the left, the Flood Mansion, Fairmont Hotel, City Hall ruins, St. Boniface Roman Catholic Church tower. Bank of Greater San Francisco, E. Graney Horseshoer.

View northeast across City Hall Square (name changed to Marshall Square in December, 1902) to Pioneer (James Lick) Monument, City Hall on left, Hall of Records on right. In 1993, the monument was moved to the pedestrian mall on Fulton Street between the Asian Art Museum and the new Main Library. French-made cannon in front of monument was a Spanish-American war prize, presented by the Army in a ceremony on March 21, 1900. It is now in the Presidio.

Sweeney (Sweeney's name was misspelled on the observatory.)
