Large corner mansion with gardens front and back was built circa 1884 by wealthy attorney and landowner David Bixler. Four story windmill and water tank on Union. Chapel at left was built in 1887 with funds provided by Stephen S. Smith, deacon of the Plymouth Congregational Church and publisher of the Pacific. This was standard procedure at the time, the horse was used to pull the car around the corner until it could grip the cable 5th Avenue. This is the last Geary Street cable car before electrification.
