At lower right, Sproule Mansion (1907-1967, northeast corner of Sacramento and Sproule Lane), built for George Whittell and sold in 1917 to William Sproule (1858-1935), president of Wells Fargo Express and the Southern Pacific Railroad). It was then extensively remodeled by Bliss & Saville architects. It was demolished in November, 1967 after an unsuccessful fight for its preservation
