Elevated view east on Market to large Knights Templar hanging decoration over intersection. Large electric car crossing, these cars only had hand brakes but no air brakes so they had a lot of accidents and only lasted about 10 years. Chronicle Bldg., Crocker Bldg., Union Trust bldg., Palace Hotel, and Nucleus block.

Crowd kneeling in gated yard and during outdoor Catholic church service at 2611 17th Street (then the southeast corner of 17th and York, later site of 17th St. car barn). Service was held on the Sunday following the earthquake and fire, led by Rev. Father Patrick Mulligan. Bernal Heights in the distance, building in distance at right may be Union Brewery at 18th and Florida Sts. The 1905 directory lists this as the home of attorney and former Sheriff John J. French-made cannon in front of monument was a Spanish-American war prize, presented by the Army in a ceremony on March 21, 1900.( It is now in the Presidio.)
