This was an industrial area crisscrossed with railroad tracks prior to the construction of the Central Freeway and the extension of the Bay Bridge Approach. In the background is the tower of paper company, Blake, Moffitt and Towne, the building now known as 888 Brannan (Built as the National Carbon Building).

The Hillside Manor Apartments, 1545 San Jose Ave at the corner of the now non-existent Calvert Drive, near the intersection of San Jose, Monterey, Joost, and Gorham in Glen Park. Built in 1950, the building was moved to 455 Arlington Street in the mid 1960s for the construction of Interstate 280. The intersection no longer exists and the site is directly under I280 today.
