Service was held on the Sunday following the earthquake and fire, led by Rev. Father Patrick Mulligan. Bernal Heights in the distance, building in distance at right may be Union Brewery at 18th and Florida Sts. The 1905 directory lists this as the home of attorney and former Sheriff John J. In the background are the ruins of the Pioneer Building (Society of California Pioneers) at 4th and Pioneer Place. The United States National Bank was located at 805 Market St. in the Flood Building after April, 1905. It advertised that its safe deposit vaults were conveniently located on the ground floor. Ruins of Temple Beth Israel in the background. This is fairly soon after the earthquake, initially cooking was required as far as possible from buildings. Later street kitchens were allowed to move to the sidewalk. (JF) This area completely demolished in redevelopment.
