South of Market
View northeast across 9th to Webb's Sandwich Shop, at 633 9th Street between Brannan and Division. This was an industrial area crisscrossed with railroad tracks prior to the construction of the Central Freeway and the extension of the Bay Bridge Approach. In the background is the tower of paper company, Blake, Moffitt and Towne, the building now known as 888 Brannan (Built as the National Carbon Building).
Showplace Square
View south across 16th Street, between Capp and South Van Ness, La Cabana Tamale & Tortilla Factory, 2931 16th Street, opened in 1949 by the family of Senorino Hernandez. The Hernandez family owned a string of grocery stores and other food-oriented businesses South of Market and in the Mission District. All buildings in view still stand in 2021.

View southwest across intersection to 2800 Mission Street. Before construction of the 24th & Mission Bart Station, this site was home to Pat's Coffee Shop, Save-On Yardage, Golden State Linoleum, Sun Vacuum Stores (2806 Mission). Eastbound Muni 35-Line #13? at far right, in front of 1 and 3 story buildings that still stand in 2023..
Mission
Por Boy Drive-In. Large angled plate glass, neon striping, chromed double doors, and Acme Beer. What's not to love about the long-gone Por-Boy Drive-In, which stood on the southwest corner of South Van Ness Avenue at Adair Street.

Hotel Coronado at 373 Ellis Street, and the El Coronado Restaurant, built 1910. Now a Community Awareness and Treatment Services (CATS) hotel. To the left is the Golden Gate Photo Engraving Co., and to the right is a restaurant.
Tenderloin
Pompei's Sea Foods at 340 Jefferson Street. Opened Frank and Marian Pompei in 1946, the business later expanded at the same location and was renamed Pompei's Grotto. It permanently closed in 2022.
Fishermans Wharf
A. Friscia's receiving station on Pier 47. It remains in the same spot and is now Scoma's Receiving Station.

11 Market Street. Army-Navy Surplus next to the Alameda Cafe, which was operated by Jacob Petersen & Son and advertised as A Standard Statement of Swift Lunch Service at the Ferry in 1915. To the right of these businesses is another cafeteria.
Financial District
View north across Geary at Mason to Harvey's Kitchen, Samon Hair Goods and Armand. Building still stands in 2021 with Jack In The Box restaurant at street level and Biscuits and Blues club in basement. (AS)
Tenderloin
1540 Divisadero Street. Leon's Fine Foods and Monakan Furniture are in storefronts below residential apartments on the east side of Divisadero. All are now demolished.
