Dedication of Alice Fong Yu Alternative School, 1541 12th Avenue between Kirkham and Lawton. Alice Fong Yu became SF's first Chinese-American Teacher in 1926 at Commodore Stockton School. [Supervisor Mabelle Tang(left) and Supervisor designate Michael Yaki hand Alice Fong Yu and her son a plaque from the Board of Supervisors honoring Mrs. Fong Yu for being the first Chinese teacher in the Unified School District. The city has named the school on 12th Avenue (formerly Columbus Elemenary) The Alice Fong Yu School and it is a Chinese immersion program.]
