660 Market

Elevated view northwest across Market to fire at 660 Market (Realty Building), which started in the basement of the Waldorf Cafe. The building was demolished shortly thereafter. Its demolition had been planned before the fire to enable the building of a replacement by its owner, the Crocker Estate, and some tenants had already vacated earlier in 1923. The replacement at 660 Market, designed by Lewis Hobart, still stands in 2022 . This photo appeared on the page 3 of the San Francisco Chronicle for November 6, 1923 with the caption "Fighting one of SF's Biggest Fires in 17 Years." [Crocker Estate Album]
