City Hall demolished, Grove street would be extended to Market at this location in 1914. In 1993, the monument was moved to the pedestrian mall on Fulton Street between the Asian Art Museum and the new Main Library. French-made cannon to right of the monument was a Spanish-American war prize. It is now in the Presidio.
