1906 Earthquake and Fire, Collapsed Home of Julius E. Peters, 2522 Howard (now South Van Ness), west side, near 21st Street. Neighboring house to left has Red Cross sign on pillar and still stands at 1060 South Van Ness. Stove in street. Front yard with palms.

North side of Eddy Street, between Taylor and Jones streets, some time during 1876-1886. l to r: 220-222 Eddy, an Italianate duplex built in 1870 for Thomas W. McCollam, a fish dealer who lived at #220; 218 Eddy, a flat-front Italianate built in 1868; 216 Eddy, a bay-windowed Italianate built in 1869 by Asa R. Wells, co-proprietor of the Mechanics' Mills at Mission and Fremont; the Second Advent Christian Church, built in 1873; and a triplex at 206-208 Eddy built in late 1875 as an investment by Cornelius Dorris, co-proprietor of the Russ House hotel. In the right background is the rear facade of the United Presbyterian Church, on Mason Street.(see wnp27.4145) (WMK)
Tenderloin
California Street Railroad (1878-1884) Gripman and conductor posed with Car #21, dummy and trailer, in front of a row of Victorian row houses. The line was extended to Central (now Presidio) Avenue from Fillmore on May 30, 1879. The car reads Kearny, Polk, and Fillmore, which would date this image to close to the time of the extension.

Victorians in the foreground 929 & 933 Valencia, as well as the white Victorian at center (3561 - 3565 20th at Lexington), still stand. 1906 fire line is evident along the north side of 20th Street.

Cow Hollow
80 Ord Street. (still standing) Italianate Victorian on Ord near Saturn Steps. Carlo Balzarini, a long-time steward at the famous Campi's Restaurant (33-35 O'Farrell) owned and lived in the house. Mr Balzarini continued to live here into the early 20th century; that may be him with the muttonchops whiskers in the photo. Looking north near Bosworth; electric streetcar trestle that ran where Diamond Street is now, between Chenery and Bosworth. Islais Creek bed. Later filled in. Buildings with bay windows in mid-ground are 701 Chenery and 2798 Diamond, both still stand.
